Hello! I’m Claire Hensley, a recent graduate of the University of Georgia with a B.A. in Public Relations. Currently, I’m participating in the IRTS Summer Fellowship and interning at Locality. I kicked off my internship during an exciting time for the company—their one-year anniversary! This past week, I had the opportunity to immerse myself in the vibrant culture at Locality, observing how team members engage with each other and foster a sense of community in the office. From managing Spirit Week submissions across 11 regional offices to participating in activities at the NYC office, I enjoyed getting to know my colleagues on a personal level, discovering their personalities, interests beyond work, and diverse backgrounds. This week has set the stage for an exciting summer ahead, during which I’ll be rotating between the marketing, research, and sales departments.
From June 10th – 14th, Locality marked its one-year anniversary with an exciting Spirit Week! Employees from all 11 offices enthusiastically joined, both in person and virtually, for a week packed with activities. Each day featured a unique theme, with participation tracked through tickets for a raffle at week’s end, offering enticing prizes. The week not only strengthened our company culture but also fostered meaningful in-person connections.
Monday started off strong with “Hometown Heroes” where team members showed off their roots by wearing clothing and accessories that represented their hometown or favorite city. We enjoyed lunch outside, played games, and shared fun facts about our hometowns and family stories. Previously unknown connections surfaced among team members, such as LT O’Brien and Lindsay Davis discovering they attended the same high school, graduating just one year apart!
Tuesday’s theme, “Through the Decades,” transported us through time as we dressed in our favorite decade styles, from Y2K chic to 70s disco. Baby photo contests and childhood career aspirations sparked nostalgia and conversation among colleagues.
Wednesday’s “Dynamic Duos” encouraged pairs or teams to coordinate outfits and compete in a “desk derby” for the most creative workspace. A lively game of Bingo capped off the day, becoming a highlight of the week.
Wrapping up on Thursday, team members sported vibrant blue and green to celebrate “Locality Loyalty” and our collective spirit. The week concluded with a live awards ceremony honoring contributions and achievements from throughout the week, followed by a celebratory happy hour.
Overall, Spirit Week was a resounding success, with high participation and positive feedback across offices. Teams showcased enthusiasm while learning new facts about each other, fostering deeper connections, and commemorating our company’s one-year milestone with joy and camaraderie.
As a newcomer to the media industry, wrapping up my first week interning at Locality fills me with excitement for the future and a deep sense of reassurance. I’ve been truly inspired by the authentic connections formed among team members and the shared pride in the company’s mission. I’m excited to continue learning and expanding my professional skills throughout the rest of the summer!
